Em Chan Makara Appointed as Secretary of State of the Ministry of Justice

Phnom Penh: In a royal decree issued on Friday, February 23, 2024, His Majesty the King of Cambodia, Norodom Sihamoni, announced the appointment of Em Chan Makara as the new Secretary of State of the Ministry of Justice.

This follows Mr. Makara's resignation from his previous post as Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Secretary-General of the Disability Action Council.

The royal message, conveying the transfer and appointment of Mr. Em Chan Makara, was delivered by Prime Minister Hun Manet, who received orders from the King to implement the decision effective February 23, 2024.

In a letter addressed to Deputy Prime Minister Koeut Rith and Minister Chea Somethy, Mr. Em Chan Makara explained that his resignation from the Disability Action Council aimed to create opportunities for other qualified officials to assume leadership roles and gain fresh experiences, aligning with his commitment to fostering knowledge exchange and skill development.

Em Chan Makara's educational journey began with his graduation from Boeung Trabek High School in 2002. He subsequently earned a Bachelor's Degree in Law from the Royal University of Law and Economics in 2006, followed by a Master's Degree in 2014.

Since his teenage years in 1997, Mr. Em Chan Makara has been actively involved in advocating for children's rights, earning recognition for his dedication to this cause. His career in government service commenced in 2011 as Chief of the Cabinet of Minister of Social Affairs, under the leadership of Ith Sam Heng. In 2013, he was appointed Secretary-General of the Disability Action Council

This led to his appointment as Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs in 2020, a position he has held until the present.

Mr. Em Chan Makara's tenure as a spokesperson for the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation in the 7th mandate of the Royal Government earned him widespread acclaim. He consistently engaged with national and international journalists, providing comprehensive explanations of the ministry's policies and initiatives.

Em Chan Makara's appointment to the Ministry of Justice underscores his continued dedication to public service and governance, ensuring the effective administration of justice in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
